Tungurahua Comes Back To Life

On Wednesday Tungurahua started acting up again with the strongest explosions on New Year's Day. The steam and ash emissions reaching 1.5 km above the crater.

The athoraties are keeping a wathful eye on the monitors.

This morning the activity was normal.

  1. Hello
Very nice blog about Banos Ecuador, yep the Tungurahua volcano is still facing the eruptive process but as far I can see Banios is still active and full of tourists.

    Roberto,

I'm interested in learning more about your location and project. I am in the process of planning a trip to Ecuador over the summer to do some climbing and would like to check out some of the surrounding areas as well. Banos sounds fantastic, but I don't have any local contacts in the country. I can be reached at cantwell.kevin@gmail.com.

    Thanks,

    Kevin

  5. Awwww. Baños!!!! How I loved it there when I went 15 years ago, sadly have not yet been back :( Mum was from Baños, always had delightful stories of growing up there. I am seriously considering moving there... currently in NYC but really would give this up in a second to live in Baños. Planning to visit later this year, if I return it will only be to pack up my belongings and move to Baños ;)

  17. Tungurahua is quite the unpredictable volcano! I visited Banos in 2008, and it was quite active then as well. Beautiful volcano, in a beautiful area of Ecuador!
