Tungurahua, coughed but no cause for alarm.

For the past two weeks "Mama Tungurahua" has been showing a few signs of life and around three AM on the 24th had a significant explosion that threw out s little ash and pulverised rock. As usual Baños continues to be fine and the athorities say there is no cause for alarm.

The communities on the other side of the mountain received some fall-out but there was no danger to the population. The ash is always a hazzard but for now no one is alarmed.

I will keep you advised.

  1. Hello, Roberto. I stumbled across your blog because I am looking for something to do this summer that is within reasonable distance of Banos.

I speak fluent Spanish, and I have learned basic Quichua. I would really like to work on my Quichua this summer before grad school (I study Latin America). I have friends and loved ones in Banos, so I want to be within an hour or two of that town.

I just left Ecuador after four months there, because I needed to return to San Francisco, CA, to earn money. Here, I tutor Latino elementary students who do not speak English yet.

I would love to learn if there is a possibility for exchange (English for Quichua). I have experience teaching children and adults and could fill in as your second teacher at your school. I can tell you a lot more about myself, if you would please email me.

    My email: e.dumford@gmail.com

Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

  2. Hey there Roberto,

My partner and myself are looking at doing volunteer work in South America. We are unsure of our exact schedule, however we are thinking about leaving New Zealand in late October/early November and spending 3 months or so travelling and volunteering. Do you have a minimum time to volunteer, and what costs are involved per week?

    Our email address is: fallon.nathan@ihug.co.nz

    Regards, Fallon (New Zealand)

    Dear Roberto and J. Walker,

I am very interested in getting in touch with you. I am currently developing a website about volunteering and responsible travel in Ecuador called Moving Ecuador (www.movingecuador.com). I would like to see how I can support your project in Salasaca. You can contact me on info@volunteeringecuador.info

Looking forward to hearing from you.
